11 MAY 2017 RAOSAHEB DANVE HUMILIATE FARMERS

Congress threatens to launch agitation against Maharashtra BJP chief Raosaheb Danve over 'derogatory' remarks

Mumbai: The Congress party has threatened to launch an agitation against Maharashtra BJP chief Raosaheb Danve's comments on tur dal growers. Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Chavan told reporters on Thursday that his party will launch a statewide stir from tomorrow against Danve's "derogatory" comments.
He also demanded an apology from the BJP over Danve's remarks against the farmers.

Danve had stoked a controversy on Wednesday by saying that farmers continue to complain despite the state government doling out sops to bail out tur growers. "The state government has so far procured the highest amount of tur in the history and it is going to purchase additional 1 lakh tonne; still some (referring to farmers) continue to complain," Danve said at Jalna in Marathwada.
Chavan said Danve has insulted the farmers when the government is not procuring the tur produce and also not giving a loan waiver to help them tide over the agrarian crisis resulting out of drought conditions, unseasonal rains and lack of good market price for their produce.
"Important leaders in the ruling party are making irresponsible statements," he said. "This is nothing but sheer arrogance. Power has gone to their heads. By abusing farmers, Danve has added insult to their injury," he said.
Slamming Danve's remarks, Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam said in a tweet, "...he first abused the farmers and cursed then too. This is the true face of BJP. Anti-farmer BJP."
Notably, even ruling ally Shiv Sena had slammed Danve for seeking a guarantee from the opposition that loan waiver will stop suicide by farmers. The Sena said this showed that the state BJP chief has no sympathy for farmers.
Danve, while talking to reporters after visiting Sai Baba temple at Shirdi in Ahmednagar on Monday, asked the opposition to "give in writing" that a loan waiver would stop farmers' suicides in Maharashtra.
The Centre had last year undertaken a massive programme to increase production of tur in Maharashtra. The state saw record production of the cereal due to good monsoon. However, the glut led to fall in prices of tur, adversely affecting cultivators. A delay in opening procurement centres further worsened the farmers' condition.
A few days ago, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had admitted gross mismanagement in tur procurement. Fadnavis managed to get an extension from the Union government to keep procurement centres open till May-end. This came as a relief to the BJP, which was under attack from allies and opposition over tur procurement.

Maharashtra BJP chief asks farmers to stop complaining over tur dal, draws flak

Mumbai: Maharashtra BJP chief Raosaheb Danve on Wednesday stoked a controversy when he said farmers continue to complain despite the state government doling out sops to bail out tur growers.
"The state government has so far procured the highest amount of tur in the history and it is going to purchase additional 1 lakh tonne; still some (referring to farmers) continue to complain," Danve said.

"...ajoon ek lakh tonne tur kharedi karnaar aahe taree radtaat (We are going to procure 1 lakh tonne of tur but still they are crying)," he said in a reply to a question raised by a BJP worker in Jalna in Marathwada on Wednesday afternoon.
The worker had asked Danve how he should respond to farmers on delayed tur procurement issue.
Danve was interacting with party workers after inaugurating the office of Maharashtra Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Babanrao Lonikar.
The Centre last year had undertaken a massive programme to increase production of tur in Maharashtra. The state saw record production of the cereal due to good monsoon.
However, the glut led to fall in prices of tur, adversely affecting cultivators. A delay in opening procurement centres further worsened farmers' condition.
A few days back, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had admitted gross mismanagement in tur procurement.
Fadnavis managed to get an extension from the Union government to keep procurement centres open till May-end which came as a relief to the BJP, which was under attack from allies and opposition over tur procurement.
"If someone is buying a produce at lower rate than the state defined price, then 25 percent of the total volume is procured by the state government. It is a common and traditional intervention by the state machinery to stabilise the market prices and avoid losses of cultivators.
"The state government not only purchased 4 lakh tonne tur but also increased its quota by additional procurement of one lakh tonne... still some complain," he said.
"We have also given Rs 400 per quintal subsidy to farmers which is happening for the first time. One must stop complaining and start spreading the good work done by the BJP government," Danve said.
Meanwhile, opposition Congress reacted sharply to the BJP leader's comments.
Maharashtra Congress president Ashok Chavan said farmers will teach the ruling BJP a lesson for its "arrogance of power".
"Farmers will teach these people a lesson," the former chief minister said.
Despite assurances of additional tur procurement by the chief minister, purchase centres are yet to start functioning at many places, Chavan alleged.

AURANGABAD -- The Maharashtra Police has booked state Bharatiya Janata Party President Raosaheb Danve for violating the election code of conduct, under the directive of the State Election Commission, an official said on Thursday.
Danve has been booked under Indian Penal Code Section 171-B, and Section 20(I) of the Maharashtra Municipal Council, Nagar Panchayat and Industrial Township Act, in an FIR lodged by the Paithan police.
The police action was initiated late Wednesday night following instructions from the Aurangabad collectorate after directions from State Election Commissioner (SEC) J.S. Saharia's office, the official said.
Danve is accused of allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct for the ongoing civic body elections in the state and luring voters in Paithan on 17 December to accept 'Goddess Laxmi' if it came to them before the next day's civic elections there.
Goddess Laxmi symbolises and is revered as the embodiment of wealth in India.
Following the statement, videos of which went viral on social media networks, the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party had demanded stringent action against Danve for his statement on the eve of the December 18 elections to civic bodies in Aurangabad, Nanded, Bhandara and Gadchiroli districts.
Later, the SEC demanded an explanation from Danve in which, among other things, he claimed to have been quoted out of context, but was not satisfied with his defence.
In the first video Danve says, "Today is 17 December and tomorrow is 18 December, the voting day. The eve of election is important, as suddenly you get 'darshan' of (Goddess) Laxmi. If such Laxmi comes to your door, please welcome it."
In his reply to the SEC notice, he said that poll-eve is important and suddenly in the night there will be obeisance to Goddess Laxmi, and if Goddess Laxmi comes the voters must ensure she does not return empty-handed.

FIR has been filed under section 171 B of the IPC.
In yet another embarrassment for the ruling BJP, a case has been registered against the president of its Maharashtra unit and Member of Parliament, Raosaheb Danve. The case is regarding the controversial statement made by Danve during a poll campaign rally for the local body elections. The FIR has been filed under section 171 B of the IPC at the Paithan Police Station in Aurangabad district on Wednesday night.
While addressing a rally during his campaign on December 17 for the Nagar Panchayat Polls in Paithan, Danve had appealed to his voters to accept "Lakshmi" ( Goddess of wealth) if it is offered to them on the eve of polls. "Today is 17th and tomorrow is 18th - the day of voting.. If Goddess Lakshmi gives you darshan today, do not turn it down. Accept it and vote for whoever you have decided for," Danve reportedly said in the rally. A video clip of Danve's statement had also gone viral on social media. Calling it as an attempt to promote cash for votes, Opposition parties had approached the State Election Commission demanding strict action against Danve.
Taking a serious note of Danve's statement, the state election commission had asked Aurangabad District Collector to register an FIR against Danve for violating the model code of conduct.
But the Opposition is not happy just with the FIR. The Samajwadi Party has demanded Danve's resignation. "The Election Commission has directed the District Collector to file a case against Raosaheb Danve. He should now immediately resign on moral grounds. The protocol offered to him should also be taken away,"demanded Samajwadi Party leader and MLA Abu Asim Azmi.
The NCP has called this as arrogance of power, "This is the second time that someone from the BJP or affiliated with the BJP has been rapped on the knuckles by the EC. Earlier a minsieter in Fadnavis Cabinet, Mahadev Jankar had to face the music for pressurising an election officer. This is nothing but arrpogance of power," alleged Nawab Malik, Spokesperson of the Nationalist Congress Party.

5 reasons Raosaheb Danve is unfit to lead Maharashtra BJP

He has no idea about his own party workers and isn't even kept in the loop by his bosses.

Social media is abuzz with the speculation that Maharashtra BJP president Raosaheb Danve is on his way out for defending the tainted Eknath Khadse, who stepped down as revenue minister on June 4 following the charge of conflict of interest in a land purchase case. In yet another controversy, it has emerged Danve has been staying at a government bungalow allotted to a minister.
Here are five major reasons why Danve deserves to be relieved from the crucial job immediately:
1. He does not know his party workers
On June 1, when BJP president Amit Shah asked him to field a north Indian candidate in the election of the legislative council, Danve was completely clueless on who could be the right candidate. It was a moment of embarrassment for a person who is with the BJP since its foundation in 1980.
When someone floated the name of RN Singh, owner of a Hindi daily, what Danve did was even more embarrassing. Surprisingly, he consulted a Congress leader, Kripashankar Singh, an accused in a disproportionate assets case, on whether RN Singh could indeed be the right candidate for the state BJP.
Either Danve was unaware that both the Singhs had common business interests, or he was incapable of taking a call. Both the possibilities clearly spell out that Danve does not deserve to continue as the state president of a ruling party.
2. He is ill-informed
A day before Shah asked Khadse to tender his resignation, Danve announced that the party was backing Khadse and he would not resign. He also declared that a report submitted by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Khadse family’s land deal could be in favour of him.
eknath-bd_060916015227.jpgDanve was misinformed and was not consulted on the Eknath Khadse issue.
These developments show Danve was misinformed and was not consulted at all on Khadse’s issue. Does a leader who is not kept in the loop by his bosses in the party deserve to head the state unit?
3. He is economical with the truth
Danve proudly proclaims that the BJP registered one crore new members in his leadership under the "give-missed-call-become-a-member" scheme. He had promised that out of any worker who joins the party, at least 200 new members will be made special executive officers to work with the state government. Not a single worker has been awarded the post yet. A party president’s lies cannot be justified.
4. Indifferent about his own government
On May 26, when the Narendra Modi government completed two years in office, the state BJP unit had organised a celebration at the party headquarters at Nariman Point in Mumbai. Majority of the second rank leaders attended the function but Danve gave it a miss. He was busy in giving interviews to the news channels when the workers needed to take guidance from him on how to project the government’s good work.
Can a person who's indifferent about his own government’s achievements continue as a state president?
5. He can be quite callous
When Mumbai BJP secretary Vivekanand Gupta raised voice against giving candidature to Pravin Darekar, an accused in the Rs 412-crore Mumbai Bank scam, the general secretary (organisation) Ravindra Bhusari ordered him to fall in line.
However, as Gupta refused to be gagged, Bhusari advised him to end his life if he was not interested in following the party line. Danve remained a mute spectator in this case. He did not try to boost a dejected Gupta’s morale. It is not a good idea to allow a leader, who does not care about his office bearers, to continue to lead them.

NASHIK: The Nashik city unit ofShiv Sena on Thursday staged an agitation against the alleged anti-farmer remarks byBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Raosaheb Danve.

The state BJP president on Wednesday at a party activists' meeting in Jalna had allegedly abused farmers for questioning the government's stand on tur dal procurement. He said that farmers continued to complain despite the state government doling out sops to help tur growers, hit by dip in prices due to increased output.

"The state government has so far procured the highest amount of tur in the history and it is going to purchase additional one lakh tonne, still some (referring to farmers) continue to complain," Danve had said replying to a question by a BJP worker who had asked him how he should respond to the farmers on delayed tur procurement issue.

On Thursday, workers of the Shiv Sena, an ally of the BJP, attacked an effigy of the state BJP president with shoes during the protest organised at Shalimar office at 11am and condemned Danve's statement against the farmers. The Shiv Sainikseven blocked the busy road outside the party office during the agitation and demanded an unconditional apology from Danve.

"This is the most atrocious remark and the BJP must now decide whether they want to retain such people as their leaders or not," said Shiv Sena city unit chief Ajay Boraste, adding "The farmers are committing suicide as their labour is not being honoured, but the BJP leaders are not bothered about what happens to them. If the BJP leaders are unable to help the farmers, at least they should not abuse them. Why are they bent upon treating the farmers so badly."

Danve on Thursday expressed regret over his remarks on 'tur dal' growers. Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Chavan had earlier in the day told reporters that his party would launch a statewide stir from tomorrow against Danve's "derogatory" comments.

In a statement, Danve said, "I was trying to convince my party worker regarding the tur procurement issue. It was just a dialogue between me and the party worker. I did not use any cuss-word against the farmers. But, somehow, farmers are hurt and I express my regrets. No need to link the dialogue between me and my party worker with farmers," he said.

He added, "I am a son of a farmer and I know the farmers' plight. I have been taking the farmers' side in my 35-year-long political career. I cannot use a cuss-word against the farmers."
